Featured Artist: Alex Banin
Statement from the Artist
I have always taken the most interest in forms with strong contours and simple glazes, which is rarely expressed in my stylistically inconsistent work. I am learning: always taking risks, experimenting with new processes, incorporating different techniques, not being afraid to ruin a piece. By focusing on the process rather than the product, I find that I am starting to hone in on a style that will continue to develop as I grow as an artist. In this exploration phase, I think that exercising control over my urges to take something a bit too far would be restrictive on my artistic development. Eventually, when I do move on to a more consistent or product-oriented focus, I will have to contain some impulses to experiment on each piece, but for right now, I am content exploring the act of creation rather than obsessing over the creation itself.
